Remo Sports Development Council says plans are underway to hold a successful second edition of Remo Sports Festival in 2022, to consolidate on the success of the maiden edition of the sports festival in 2021
Remo Divisional Sports Officer (DSO), Mr. David Osuolale who expressed the readiness of the division in an interview with newsmen, says the inauguration of the committee and press conference for the festival will take place in due course.
"It is very eminent to make it known to the good people of Remoland that the second edition of Remo Sports Festival will equally hold this year, 2022. The maiden (first) edition of the festival took place in 2021 which was held between the 15th to 18th of December, 2021 at Gateway International Stadium",Osuolale revealed.
He appreciated the support of technical committee members of the sports council and individuals who contributed to the success of the maiden edition of the sports festival, calling on them for the same support in the coming edition
"I want to thank everyone who supported us then; the Technical Committee, Remo Sports Development Council, sponsors, and everyone who has supported us in one way or the other to make it a reality. We appreciate them and we looking forward to this set of people and more others should also rally around the possibility of having it again this year (2022)".
According to him,"Any moment from now, the committee for 2022 being the second edition of the Remo Sports Festival will be set up and the date for the festival will be announced in due course as well as the venue of the inauguration which will be followed by the press conference."
Mr. David Osuolale thereby solicited for supper from the corporate world and well-to-do Remo indigenes to make this year's Remo Sports Festival a success story.
He said: "I want to assure the people of Remo that this edition is going to be a laudable one compared to what we have at the maiden edition. I am equally using this medium to call on private sectors and well-to-do individuals with the stakeholders in Remoland to be part of this edition to support it in any form.
"Our athletes have a lot to benefit as seen at the last Commonwealth Games where Nigeria got the best result in the country's history at the Games. As a result of this, talents will be also discovered and the future is bright for sports in Nigeria, particularly in Ogun State.
With all the available facilities around us in Ogun State, we want to assure us that more talents will be discovered.", Osuolale added
"The maiden edition in 2021 was a success with the discovery of talents that are under the tutelage of various state coaches. The thrust of the 2022 Remo Sports Festival is to discover and nurture more talents that will represent the state and Nigeria at international events",he stated .
"During the 2021 edition, a lot of talents were discovered and are under the tutelage of coaches of which at any given opportunity they will start representing the state in national competitions and from there we can look forward to them representing the country and shinning at international events".
"Let's prepare for the 2022 Remo Sports Festival. I want to thank the media for their support during the maiden edition last year as well as the officials and coaches. This year's edition won't have less than what we had last year which comprises about ten (10) sports; athletics, football, boxing, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, handball, chess, and other sports that will make the event wonderful." He concluded.
Sagamu Local Government won the 2021 Remo Sports Festival with 12 gold, 15 silver, and 7 bronze medals ahead of Ikenne Local Government (10 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze medals), while Remo North Local Government had 2 silver and 6 bronze medals.
