Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has charged the Alumni Association of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), to continue to work towards sustaining the Institution’s legacy which has earned it recognition among the comity of Polytechnics in Nigeria, just as he described polytechnic education as critical to the technological growth of Nigeria
Abiodun who was speaking on Saturday through his Special Adviser on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, during the 6th Distinguished Alumni Merit Award of the polytechnic in Abeokuta, lauded MAPOLY for its immeasurable contributions in the provision of professionals making impact across the globe, calling on members to ensure sustainance of the prestige, by complementing his administration's commitment to using functional technical and vocational education to drive the economy of the state
The governor reiterated that the Polytechnic played critical role in the development of highly skilled and technical personnel, stating that the Institution would continue to enjoy government’s attention.
“I want to congratulate the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic on your 6th Distinguished Alumni Merit award. Of course, your prestige and impact among the comity of Polytechnics in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized. I want to charge you not to allow the prestige to wane. On our part as government, we would continue to accord you the needed support. We will ensure that MAPLOY regains its full relevance among the comity of Vocational and Technical Education at the Polytechnic”, the governor assured.
Abiodun affirmed that his administration would continue to accord Polytechnic education the needed attention in order to achieve more technological development, describing MAPOLY as the birthing ground for technologists, Engineers and other professionals, saying graduates of the institution have proved their mettle anywhere they found themselves in the area of practical exposure.
Speaking on Security: Panacea to a Sustainable National Growth and Development, the Guest Lecturer, Mr. Eddy Aina, posited that agitations for self-determination, poverty, inequality, unemployment and alignment of some religious sects with foreign terrorist groups were some of the factors contributing to insecurity, saying establishment of state police, meritocracy, honesty, pragmatism as well as the urgent rejigging of security apparatus among others could tame it.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to some distinguished alumnus and other notable personalities including Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina who was a former Rector of the polytechnic alongside his three predecessors including Prof. Oludele Itiola, Arc.Olatokunbo Fowode and Town Planner Waheed Kadiri who were appreciated for their outstanding contributions to the growth of the polytechnic
Some of the alumni presented with the Distinguished Awards include the Olota of Ota, HRM, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, the Agura of Gbagura-Egba , HRM, Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, General Manager, NTA Abeokuta, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, Oluseyi Soremekun, Pastor Anthony Adeniji, Arc. Oladipo Sulaimon Olatunji, Lanre Oyegbola, Kunle Orekoya, Senior Envangelist Adeboye Kehinde Oluseye , Olamide Lawal who is a Special Assistant on Youth and Sports to the governor amongst others distinguished alumni
