Ogun Proposes Transport Authority To Attract Investment




Ogun State Government says it is proposing a bill seeking establishment of Transport Authority to attract the much needed Investment, with the aim of boosting mass transit scheme and operations in the transportation sector 

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr.Gbenga Dairo  made this known on Thursday in Abeokuta during the second quarter budget appraisal of his ministry by the State House Committee on Transportation 

Dairo explained that the establishment of the proposed agency was precondition given for development partner from the United Kingdom to invest in the transportation sector 

The Commissioner says his ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Justice to fine-tune the proposed bill for the establishment of "Transport Authority", assuring members of the committee that the bill would soon be presented to the house for consideration and passage to improve the sector in the state

On plan to expanding the route under the  mass transit scheme, he revealed that the pilot scheme would be expanded beyond the Ita-Oshin to Adatan route in Abeokuta to other parts of the state on completion of road infrastructure and furniture 

Dairo who disclosed that the ministry in the past six months under review realized N59.32million mainly from road taxes and parks development levy out of the projected N151.98million 

He added that N26.46million on traffic/street lights as capital project within the period under review

The Commissioner listed the achievements of the ministry to include launching of strategic transport master plan, execution of a Momoranda of Understanding MOU / Agreement with Lagos State Government on the development of Rail station at Agbado amongst others 

The House Committee's Chairman, Hon.Daisi Elemide stressed the need for government to speed up the process of presenting the proposed bill to the lawmakers, so as to move transportation sector forward while advocating for recruitment of more personnel into the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) to enhance management of traffic in the state
