16 Ogun Inmates Graduate From Quranic School, 75 Others In Christian Theology

  




No fewer than 16 male inmates in the Old Abeokuta Custodian Centre in Ibara, have graduated from Qu'ranic  School just as 75 others completed their studies in Christian Theology from the same facility under  the religious education programme of the Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service 

The Deputy Controller Of Correction in charge of the custodian centre, Bamidele Oshin who made this known on Saturday from the sideline of a maiden Walimotul Qu'ran Recitation Graduation, explained that the programme was aimed at reforming the inmates through religious reintegration programme of the correctional centre before reintegration into the society

The DCC added that the programme was initiated to regenerate their spiritual wellbeing which according to him, will modify their behaviour against all forms of violence including truancy and other vices in the society  

Oshin said that the six months Qu'ranic programme had prepared the inmates to focus on other reformation activities of the centre

He however solicitated for more support of Non-Governmental Organizations, religious institutions , corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to enable the Command actualize its objective of sustaining such programme for the inmates

The Correctional Service's Chief then cautioned youths to shun all forms of get rich-quick syndrome or cyber crime, popularly as Yahoo boys, saying such money will not last for long before they are caught and punish for crime committed 

He enjoined them to work hard to  attain high level and live a descent and honest life  

Also speaking, the Assistant Superintendent of Correction ,Abdul-hakeem Awesu who is Social Welfare/Education Desk Officer at the centre, revealed that similar programme was earlier organized for 75 inmates who are christians  after completion of their programme in Theology on the 28th of April, 2022

He further revealed that 76 other inmates are undergoing degree courses at the National Open University while some of them are learning one vocation or the other under the vocational education programme of the custodian centre

Foremost Islamic Cleric, the Wakeel Muslim of Yoruba land, Edo and Delta States, Sheik Al-Imam Iskeel Muhammed Awwal popularly known as Sugar, who is one of the financial of the programme however pleaded with government to grant  Armesty for the inmates who had been morally reformed  through the religious programme of the centre, saying they will be useful for the society

Two of the inmates Jimoh and Hussein appreciated the management of the State Command of Nigerian Correctional Service for the rare opportunity provided for them to be among graduands of the Qu'ranic School which has completely reformed them as soon better persons 

They advised those still engaging in criminal activities to shun such acts, saying it will do them no good but land them in such correctional centre

The event attracted notable Muslim Clerics including,Alhaji Sheik Abdul Quadri Olohunseye who was the guest lecturer
