ASUU Strike:Buhari Seeks For More Understanding ,Says FG Will Look At Demands




President Muhammadu Buhari has pleaded with the striking lecturers in the public  universities in Nigeria to exercise more understanding  with the Federal Government ,promising to look into their  demands

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities extended their strike this week which started since February, following the failure of the government to release revitalization fund for the public university system, replace IPPIS as payment platform and accept UTAS, implementation of the 2009 Memoranda of Action amongst other demands

Buhari  who made the appeal during the 19th National Productivity Day awards on Thursday in Abuja , urged the lecturers to call-off their industrial action  and return to the classrooms in the interest of students

He also asked  students in public tertiary institutions  to  exercise patience with government ,assuring them that government would look into various matters affecting within the available resources

 Chief of Staff to President ,Prof.Ibrahim Gambari  had met with the leadership of ASUU and other unions within the public university system alongside Minister of Education,  Minstter of Labour and Employment  and that of Finance,Budget  and National Planning had met with leadership of ASUU with the aim of addressing the demands of the lecturers

Buhari assured of the Federal overnment’s commitment to the raising the standard of the education in the country ,to ensure a brighter future for young Nigerians

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige addressing newsmen,said that the meeting agreed on grey areas including salary structure, funding of public universities amongst others demands

He added that the meeting would continue next week
