Ogun State Government has lauded a Non-Governmental Organization, "Encouragement Initiative" EI for complimenting government's social Investment efforts with its donation of school sandals to over 20,000 less privileged students in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Delta and Imo States
The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, Barr.Femi Ogunbanwo who gave the commendation during the 10th annual charity lecture of the NGO in Ijebu-Ode, appealed to well meaning Nigerians and companies to support the organization to actualize its lofty dreams and aspirations
Ogunbanwo who was Chairman of the event described theme of the charity lecture "Hope For The Less Privileged In An Unevenly Distributed Future-An Agenda For All", as a topic worthy of discourse saying " a hopeless life is a disaster to itself and other lives around because a day without hope is like a million years in the desert surrounded by tonnes of carnivorous dinosaurs"
He appreciated the founder of the NGO Dr.Rotimiolu Akinlesi and his wife, Dr.Bukunola Akinlesi for sustaining the organization despite myriad of challenges over the past 20years
The commissioner described the distribution of uniforms, sandals, school bags, writing materials, free school feeding ,free textbooks, free medicare as "positive values EI is adding to the lives of the less privileged in the society"
Ogunbanwo who prayed God to strengthen EI to do more to touch many more lives, however noted his ministry's support in the successful implementation of the Federal Government's social Investment programmes such as Home Grown School Feeding Programme which provides free meals for 178,128 pupils in public primary schools and engages 3,505 cooks
He revealed that 31,643 people had registered for the first stage of registration of the Ogun State Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) while 9,171 people are beneficiaries of the first phase of the "Household Upliftment Programme" initiated by the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration in the state
Co-founder of EI, Dr.(Mrs)Bukunola Akinlesi while welcoming participants at the event, said group of individuals trained by the NGO supported a blind young man in his academic pursuit in 2021 while in 2019, a young boy benefited from a limb amputation surgery prior to the donation of a prosthetic limb amongst other supportive projects to the less privileged students in the society
Founder of the organization and Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr.Akinlesi speaking with newsmen on the sideline of the charity lecture, said that EI enjoyed the support of over 450 volunteer and some wealthy Nigerians who appreciate the efforts of the NGO towards encouraging the less privileged students in the society to actualize their dreams
