Ogun Seeks Residents' Support On Distressed Structures,To Prevent Loss Of Lives




Ogun State Government has called for the support of  members of the public in  providing information on any distressed building around them, in order to save lives and avoid needless loss of property in the State.

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Town Planner Olatunji Odunlami who made the call at a press briefing in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta over the weekend, said that the step had become imperative to assist government forestal untimely deaths arising from building collapse and unethical practices by developers who usually build with substandard materials and sometimes without necessary approvals.


Odunlami while speaking on the recent Building Collapse that occurred at Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area of the State added that the committee set up by the Governor Dapo Abiodun would apply the condition of anonymity for anyone who wants to come forward with vital information that can assist the committee to deliver on its mandate 

According to him, the sitting of the committee has commenced at the conference room of the ministry, while visitation to the site of the building collapse will come up on Wednesday, 23rd March, 2022.

" We want to appeal to the citizen of Ogun State, our eyes can not see everywhere but your eyes can see everywhere and your ears can hear things in your neighborhood, anytime you see strange things, may be it happens and some people are trying to cover it up, just raise the alarm, let us know so we can act accordingly".

" We call on members of the public from that neighborhood who may have information on the incident that can assist this committee, to feel free to approach us, the committee is given one week from today to submit it's report and its sittings will be held in this conference room starting from today and Tuesday, 22nd March, 2022 also at the site of the collapse at Iperu, on Wednesday, 23rd March, 2022," he said.

Odunlami expressed the readiness of the State Government  to put an end to unapproved building practices that could further endanger human lives.

The Commissioner who noted the  proactive steps being taken by the Abiodun's administration to curb the event of building collapse, assured of swift response to distress calls from members of the public irrespective of the location across the state.

The meeting had in attendance the Special Adviser on Environment who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Adviser and Director General, Lands and Survey, the Commissioner of Police, Commissioner for information and Strategy and directors in the ministry, among others.
