New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of violating the COVID-19 protocool in the country, by mixing with large crowd of people on Saturday at the Odun Omo-Olowu Day festival in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The State Chairman of the party, Comrade Olaposi Sunday Oginni in a statement on Saturday in Abeokuta, expressed concern over the possible out-break of the third wave of the deadly Corona virus in the state, arising from the non-compliance by the governor who met with the Service chiefs and signed Anti-Open Grazing bill last Thursday at his office inside the State Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, just few hours after his arrival from the United Kingdom
NNPP is worried that the governor who should know better, also participated at the Nigeria’s 61st Independence Day parade held on Friday with large crowd of school children and military personnel in attendance at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto ,Abeokuta
The party is also disturbed that the governor failed to take a cue from President Mohammedu Buhari who complied strictly with the mandatory 14days quarantine period on his arrival from the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, while the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting and performed other official functions on behalf of the president
According to the party, “The governor would have avoided such official functions, if he had complied with the constitutional provision of writing to the State House of Assembly , directing his deputy to act on his behalf during his stay in the United Kingdom, as contained in the petition of NNPP before the house”
“We in the New Nigeria People’s Party, therefore call on the governor not to continue to expose the lives of people of Ogun state to danger by adhering strictly to the established COVID-19 protocool by the Presidential Committee “, the party urged
