Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom Celebrates Obasanjo's Son, Retired Police DIG



Chief (Dr.) Oluseun Obasanjo, son of Nigeria's former president and Balogun of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Adeleye Oyebade have been honoured as sons of the kingdom for their unique contributions to the development of Owu-people and the country

Oluseun, the Managing Director of Tempo Paper Pulp and Packaging Limited, a subsidiary of Obasanjo Holdings Limited, was honoured on Saturday with an award of Distinguished Owu Son of The Year, during the colourful grand-finale of this year's Odun Omo-Olowu Day with the theme "Posterity"at the Oba Adisa Odeleye Park, Ori-Omi Sokori in Abeokuta, the Ogun State  capital



Governor Dapo Abiodun presenting the award to the first class Electrical Engineering graduate of South Bank  University, London in United Kingdom, lauded the exceptional qualities of the awardee 

Abiodun described the awardee as a well cultured and hardworking individual who deserved to be honoured, urging him to do more for the growth of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom and the state

The Aare Bobakeye of Owu  was appreciated by the Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu for encouraging several less privileged persons of Owu descent to further their education, offering them scholarships, bursaries while rewarding outstanding Students in secondary schools ,colleges or higher Institutions of learning with academic prizes 



The awardee pledged more support to the development of kingdom and the state while appreciating the Olowu and the governor for the words of encouragement 

Also presenting the award of Role of Honour Year 2021 to the retired DIG of Police, Oyebade, the Balogun of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo  praised the awardee for doing Owu proud while in service, particularly the successful supervision of the security arrangement in both Edo and Ondo State governorship elections adjudged to be peaceful, free, fair and credible by local and International communities 





He urged him to further uplift the Owu kingdom and its people 

 The former president accompanied by former governor and Senator Ibikunle Amosun representing Ogun Central, lauded the effort of the Planning Committee led by Jagunmolu of Owu kingdom, Omoba Rotimi Olasode-Martins for the successful packaged of the 22nd edition of the Odun Omo-Olowu Day

He described the  festival as very unique Cultural activities capable of projecting the rich tourism potentials  of the Owus to the world



Also speaking Sen.Amosun, a prominent son of the kingdom pledged his committment to the growth of the Owu-Abeokuta while encouraging other indigenes to always use the festival to compliment the effort of government in the development of the state


Chairman of the Planning Committee of the festival challenged elders in the Owu-Abeokuta, to continue the good work they started in repositioning the kingdom





 


The paramount ruler of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Bakre gave their respective royal blessings to the festival, while urging the committee to sustain the spirit of oneness and committment to the growth of the Owu communities 

High point of the festival was the performance of the Ella Isu ( cutting of new yam) by the Prime Minister of the kingdom, Olusegun Obasanjo on behalf of the Olowu








Nigeria's Ace fuji musician, Abass Akande alias Obesere later entertained the Owus at the festival
