Chief Tonobok Okowa from Delta State has been elected as the new President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) at the Elective Congress of the Federation recognized by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports
The congress which took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Monday,was attended by 35 chairmen of state AFN, who converged in Abuja since Saturday for the congress and elections.
Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development had ordered fresh election into the board of the federation inline with section 10.4 of the 2017 AFN Constitution, after the dissolution of Board whose tenure had expired
The Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), the Ministry’s representatives and Nigeria’s Ambassador designate to South Africa amongst others were observers at the election.
Another Congress was said to have been held in Katsina State by a faction of the federation not recognize by the ministry
