Ogun Seeks Cooperation To Prevent Kidnapping Of Teachers, Students, Others

The Ogun State Government has sought for cooperation of residents to furnish it with credible information, as part of security measures to prevent the recurrence of the last Sunday's  abduction of two female students of the Ayetoro campus of the Olabisi Onabanjo University,(OOU), Ago-Iwoye and a female secondary school teacher by gunmen in the state

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu who made the call in Abeokuta, said such vital information could help security operatives fight all sorts of criminality, and make the State a conducive place to live in for all.

Arigbabu was making the appeal when he received the Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Akinbola Abosede who was kidnapped on her way to her place of primary assignment in Ilara-Yewa, Imeko-Afon  Local Government Area on Sunday and later regained freedom on Thursday

He assured residents that government would not rest on its oars until maximum security is put in place, to enable the citizens, including teachers and learners sleep with their two eyes closed.

His words,"What we need is cooperation and credible information that would help security operatives in curbing these criminal acts, we need all of us to do whatever it will cost to ensure safe and sound environment for teaching and learning. This administration will not allow a situation whereby criminals will want to actually derail the plans of this administration, particularly in the area of education, we will not rest on our oars until our people can sleep with their eyes closed"

Arigbabu added that government established the Joint Security Intervention Squad (JSIS), comprising Officers from Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Army and the local vigilantes, as well as the Amotekun Security Network, to ensure that the State becomes hell for criminals that would want to threaten the peace and security of lives and properties.

Also, the State Information and Strategy Commissioner, Alhaji Waheed Odusile  urged residents to be mindful of their environment and be security conscious at all times.

Odusile added that the present administration under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun would do everything in its power to ensure safety of lives and property, adding that the state would continue to have zero tolerance for criminality.

On his part, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), in the State, Comrade Akeem Lasisi appreciated government for the quick intervention, pledging loyalty to the present administration.

In her remark, the rescued teacher, Mrs. Akinbola of Community High School (Jnr), Ilara-Yewa, Imeko-Afon, commended the State government for its effort which aided her release from the kidnapper’s den
