Okolo’s Elegant Freekick Secures Gateway Utd's Win Against Godosky

A well-taken free-kick by enterprising  Michael Okolo secured the maximum three points for Gateway United against visiting Godosky FC of Anambra in their matchday eight Nigeria National League, NNL fixture at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Okolo's brilliant strike in the 38th minute from 25yards was enough for the home side to sustain its winning streak at home on Saturday in the Nigeria's second tier league

The Ogun State based outfit started off on the front foot as early as the fifth minute when Ogunronbi Hawal created the first real chance of the game but his effort was well saved.

It was all Gateway United as Godosky were pegged back in their own half, resulting to some comfortable exchange of passes for the Akeem Busari led side.

On the half hour mark, Oronsaye James had tried to open the lead but  his  25 yards shot was well parried away by the goalkeeper, Obinna James who later failed to stop a moment of brilliance performance from Micheal Okolo whose free-kick from 25yards found the back of the net

It was that beautiful and a goal worthy of giving the home side a lead entering into the half time break.

Ten minutes into the second half, the duo of Seyi Okeowo and Tunde Akinsemoyin entered the fray for Odunsina Olasunkanmi and Ogunronbi Hawal

Godosky had the ball in the back of the net but the referee had ruled for an offside, as the away team tried to hit a goal on the counter.

There was one more chance for Gateway United to double their lead but Oronsanye James’ shot went wide-off the target

The Media Officer of the club, Moses Ojewumi says in the side will take its next  trip to Bayelsa to face Bayelsa United on Wednesday, 24th of March
