Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board has asked for the support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to provide adequate security for the board,in ensuring that alternative medicine practitioners comply with the regulations in the state
The board is expected, to embark on inspection of various facilities in the state ,to ensure level of compliance with regulations guiding the practice of alternative medicine
Chairman of the board, Balogun Olaleye who solicited the support during a visit to the Corps Head Office in Abeokuta , says the activities of the Board is civil in nature, hence, the need to partner with the security agency
Olaleye explained that the law which established the Board empowers it to register and license any Alternate Medicine operation, while security official is expected to carryout enforcement with whoever failed to comply with the Board's directive, reiterating the State government's commitment to improving the overall health sector.
He noted that findings had shown that 65 per cent of Nigerian population are accessing Alternate medicine treatment, through the use of herbs interventions, adding that rules a d regulations guiding its operations should be properly adhere to.
Responding, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),Hammed Abolurin affirmed that both Orthodox and Alternate medine are essential to maintain good living, saying operations of the sector should not be taken with levity.
'' I want to use this opportunity to appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for his ingenuity to create a Board that will focus on how well the practice of Alternate Medicine can be enhanced for the benefit of our people and the world in general '', the Commandant said.
Abolurin who regarded creation of the Board as a plus to the Prince Dapo led administration in the provision of qualitative and efficient health care services, pledged the Corps assistance in achieving the policy thrust of the Board.
