Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is worried over the poor state of facilities at the MKO Abiola International Stadium Kuto in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The State chapter of SWAN in a Communique issued at the end of its Congress held over the weekend in Abeokuta, asked the State Government to urgently fix the problem, by carrying out major rehabilitation of the stadium and providing modern facilities
Provision of the needed facilities according to SWAN, will attract international and National Sporting activities
The Congress also expressed concern over the performance of the Ogun state owned Football Club Gateway United at the ongoing Nigeria National League, urging management of the club to strive towards picking the ticket to the elite division of Nigeria Professional Football League.
SWAN however applauded the efforts of the Proprietors of Nilayo and Remo Stars football club, Hon Bukola Olopade and Hon Kunle Soname for their respective contributions to the growth and development of sports in the state
The association implored the two teams to sustain the tempo, expressing hope on the possibility of both clubs picking available tickets for the top-flight NPFL league
SWAN strongly believed that the two teams securing places in the elite division would improve the economy of the state.
The association then encouraged its members to get vaccinated as part of preparation for the forthcoming National Sports Festival while hoping to provide the opportunities for members to cover the festival.
