Chrisland Varsity's Vice-Chancellor Seeks Review Of Teaching Curriculum




Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Prof.(Mrs)Chinedum Peace Babalola has called for a review of the teaching curriculum in the university system in Nigeria, to make teaching and learning more effective

Babalola who is first female Professor of Pharmacy in University of Ibadan, Nigeria's premier university, at a news conference over the weekend in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is recommending inclusion of teacher-practitioner system, a situation where practitioners with experiences are engaged to teach in the classrooms, applying their working experiences and serving as role models while teaching their students 

She stressed the need for the National Universities Commission (NUC) to go beyond making PhD as basic qualification for teaching in the university system, by making it mandatory for universities to inculcate teacher-practitioner in the training of students during their under graduate programmes  

The Vice-Chancellor  paid a glowing tribute to the outstanding contributions of Late ace-broadcaster with Radio Nigeria, Gbenga Emmanuel Ariba who was a pioneer lecturer and  former Acting Head of Mass-Communication Department of Chrisland University Abeokuta



She described the 67year-old Ariba as a perfect  example of a teacher-practitioner model, saying he was combining his working experiences as a seasoned media practitioner with academic, to impact knowledge on his students in the department, until his death on March 10, 2021

The deceased according to her, contributed to the success story of Chrisland University, particularly the Department of Mass Communication's whose modern broadcast studio is a model for older universities in the country

The Vice-Chancellor says the university has imbibed the practice of inculcating teacher-practitioner in various departments, to produce graduates who are practical oriented, who are problems solvers,"we want to produce graduates who can solve problem

The highly elated first female Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ibadan, expressed optimism of the readiness of the Chrisland University to secure full acreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for three academic programmes including Mass Communication, Banking and Finance and International Relations.

She recalled that the university in 2018 recorded 100 percent accreditation for its nine academic programmes and looking forward to receive the NUC team for full acreditation of the three additional courses
