New Year Celebration: Abeokuta Fun-Seekers Shun COVID-19 Protocol

Fun-Seekers in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, shunned the recommended protocol,to curtail the spread of Coronavirus pandemic in the state, as they stormed "Olumo-Rock", the famous tourism site in the city, in continuation of the  New Year Celebration.

Edu-Biznews observed that several Fun-Seekers were seen as at 6:00pm on Saturday, the second day of the new year, trooping in and out of the historic relaxation spot with out, wearing face masks or keeping social distance.

Hundreds of the Fun-Seekers seen climbing the popular rock, while commercial Motorcycle Operators, (Okada) seen carrying two or three persons, to and out of the main gate of the tourism site, in outright violation of the COVID-19 guidelines.

Nothing at the main gate of the tourism site being controlled by the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism to enforce compliance, as hundreds of the Fun-Seekers move in and out of  the recreational centre.

It was also business as usual, as at 9:00pm for a popular Night Club opposite Olukoye Ransome-Kuti in Asero area of Abeokuta and another at Isale- Ake part of the city, despite ban placed by the State Government on such relaxation spots and restaurants to reduce the spread of the disease.

Transporters, particularly cab operators are fond of carrying over load of passengers,in deviance to the protocol to carry half of their carrying capacity.

However some of the popular Eateries at Post Office Round-About in Ibara area of the state capital, ensured that every customer, sanitized his or her hands before being allowed into the facilities.
