Ogun State Energy Board will soon be established to coordinate programmes and initiatives such as independent power plants, aimed at boosting generation and supply of electricity to drive Socio-Economic activities in the state.
Also the State Safety Commission will be created as centralized agency of government, to provide necessary safety guidelines for setting up of various companies, to ensure conducive and well -secured environment for business to thrive.
The State House of Assembly on Thursday during its plenary in Abeokuta, the state capital, passed two bills to provide the legal frame work for the establishment of the two agencies to improve on the existing conducive environment to further attract more businesses and boost investment opportunities through a centralized safety guidelines and regular power supply.
The Lawmakers at the sitting presided over by the Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo, unanimously passed the State Safety Commission Law, 2019 and State Energy Board Law, 2020 into Law.
They passed the two bills,following the Committees’ reports presented by the Chairman, Committee on Environment, Haruna Wahab and his Works and Infrastructure counterpart, Abayomi Fasuwa respectively.
The Chairmen thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of their separate reports which were seconded by their Deputies, Adeyemi Ademuyiwa and Oludaisi Elemide, supported by the Whole House through a voice vote, after which the bills were later read and adopted Clause- by – Clause by the Committee of the whole House.
The motion for the third reading of the bills were later moved by the Majority Leader, Sheriff, seconded by Honourables Oludaisi Elemide and Ganiyu Oyedeji, while the Clerk and Head of Legislative Services of the Assembly, Mr. 'Deji Adeyemo, did the third reading of the bills before the members.
The speaker , thereafter directed that the clean copies of the bills be transmitted to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his assent.
Edu-biznews recalled that the Assembly had in the previous week engaged concerned stakeholders during a public hearing on the two bills, where the lawmakers assured them of adequate provisions in the laws establishing the two agencies of government to properly coordinate all issues relating to the establishment of independent power plant for the State and ensure a uniform safety measures for compliance by all categories of industries in the State.
