No fewer than 3,000 property owners in Ogun State have been issued with their Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in less than two years of Governor Dapo Abiodun administration in the state.
Director General of the State Bureau of Land and Survey,Aina Salami disclosed this on Thursday in Abeokuta while defending his agency's 2021 budget estimate before the Finance and Appropriation Committee of the State House of Assembly .
The Special adviser to the governor on Land matters, explained that those issued with C of O were part of the 3,123 registered applicants inherited under the Home Owner Charter programme ,initiated by the immediate past Ibikunle Amosun's administration.
He said that the Bureau had been working with all concerned agencies to ensure that the backlogs of applications for title documents were being cleared, having contacted those with various queries discovered during inspection.
On the 2021 budget, Salami presented a total budget estimate of N974m comprising of N524.9m for capital projects and the remaining N449m for recurrent expenditure, while expected revenue was fixed at N10bn.
Also the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Odulami Olatunji presented the 2021 budget proposal of the ministry to the house for approval.
He expressed confidence that the provisions of the budget proposal would reposition the ministry in the next fiscal year.
Odunlami explained that more stringent measures and strategies had been put in place to strengthening and enforce the existing physical planning regulations in communities across the state, in order to
achieve the target for the incoming fiscal year .
Odulami noted that such measures were aimed at promoting an orderly and pleasing environment for good living, working condition and recreation in line with the mission of the present administration.
He explained that the ministry would come up with more initiatives aimed at ensuring that builders and property developers erecting new structures in the State comply with regulations.
The Commissioner revealed that technology was being deployed to ensure effective monitoring and adherence to the regulations through the zonal offices.
Odunlami added that the present administration through the ministry had slashed the registration rate to attract more commercial, residential and industrial partners to the State.
The Commissioner presented N1.14bn as capital expenses, with N207m for recurrent expenditure giving a total budget size of N1.34bn, with N492m expected as revenue to government coffers.
The State Ministry of Housing, the State Housing Corporation, the State Planning and Development Permit Authority amongst others also defended their budget estimates before the lawmakers.
