More than seven months after, the management of Aminat International College, Gbanagun in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is still expecting the State Government to recognize the academic exploit of its 16 year-old Senior Secondary School student, Aishat Kareem, a rising star who led the state team to clinch the prestigious 2020 Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) National Championship in Lagos State.
There has been public outcry over the reported handsome reward last October ,6 to the recent Big Brother Naija winner, Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba "Laycon" who was honoured by Governor Dapo Abiodun as the State Youth Ambassador, given N5million cash and a house.
Most of the people who condemned the government gesture for rewarding the N85million BBNaija winner 'Laycon," an indigene of the State, are disturbed over the silence of the State Government's non-recognition of the Nigeria's reigning JETS team which included other three students from the Abeokuta Grammar school, Federal College of Education (FCE) Model Secondary School, Osiele, Abeokuta and Ambassador College Ota.
Principal of the College, Alhaji Mikail Anifowose in an exclusive chat with Edu-Biznews in Abeokuta, revealed that Aishat on arrival with other team members to the state on February 29, went straight to the State Ministry of Education Science and Technology in Oke-mosan where trouphy and individual medals won by the students were taken away from them, without due reward or recognition for the team's brilliance at the most glamorous national quiz and inovations competition among secondary schools in the country.
The ministry according to the principal, promised to get back to the school but nothing has been done till date, to recognize Aisha who led the state team to emerge champions at the National JETS Championship.
He however said the school on 2nd of March celebrated the academic exploit with a lot of cash reward and scholarship in appreciation of the brilliance of Aishat, a Senior Secondary School Class Three Student.
The scholarship package which included tuition fee and payment of the 2021 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASCE), had been acknowledged by the parents of the awardee.
The principal explained that Aishat emerged as champion in Odeda Local Government Area in early February, before qualifying with other three students to represent Ogun State at the JETS National Competition which ended on February 28 in Lagos .
On the academic quality of Aishat, the principal described her as exceptional brilliant student who had won many laurels for the school.
Anifowose revealed that Aishat 's unique quality became noticeable right from her days in the Junior Secondary School Class one till date.
"Aishat is a highly intelligent and focus, one of the best in her class, if not the best in her class, there is hardly any academic year, she would not win cash gift, textbook.."
The principal added that Aishat had earlier enjoyed scholarship in her Junior Secondary School Class from Prof. Kolawole Adebayo of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta ((FUNAAB) who was highly impressed with her outstanding performance for winning all the available academic prizes in the JSS one class.
