#EndSARS: Ogun,Oyo Schools Re-open Today(Monday

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and his counterpart in Oyo State,Seyi Makinde have announced re-opening of schools  shutdown last week admidst tension generated by the nationwide #EndSARS protest .

Both public and private schools are to re-open today (Monday) for continuation of the new academic calendar for 2020/21session in the two states. 

Abiodun who announced the resumption of schools in Ogun State on Sunday through his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin in Abeokuta, said peace had returned to all parts after suspension of the protest by its organizers .

"With peace returned to all parts of the State after organisers suspended protests in the State, Government announces the resumption of academic activities in all schools across levels.", the governor stated.

Also the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde,directed schools in Ibadan, the state capital, to resume normal academic activities from Monday(today).

The governor in a  statement on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olasunkanmi Olaleye was quoted as saying 'the reopening followed a review of the situation in Ibadan metropolis."

The statement reads in part, “His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, directed the closure of schools in Ibadan metropolis on Tuesday, 20th of October, 2020, following the #EndSARS protests that rocked the state.

“His Excellency had, in a message to the people of Oyo State, stated that the situation will be reviewed on Friday, 23rd October, 2020.

“Following a review of the situation as earlier promised, the state government is happy to observe that normalcy has returned to the state in the aftermath of the protests.

Makinde expressed appreciation to the youths for  cooperating with security operatives to maintain peace, while assuring them that their demands were being addressed.
