Ogun Assembly Summons Former DG Land Over Alleged Irregularities

Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned former Director General of the State Bureau of Land And Survey, Biyi Ismail over some alleged financial irregularities in the bureau's Audited Reports for 2018 and 2019.

The House Public Account And Anti-Corruption Committee is investigating the finances of the State's Ministries, Departments and Agencies, to ensure strict compliance with the appropriation law of the State .

EDU--BIZNEWS recalled that former Managing Director of the State Property And Investment Corporation ( OPIC), Jide Odusolu who had been summoned again for November 9 ,was before the committee last Tuesday to respond to queries raised in his agency's Audited Reports during his tenure.

Ismail is expected to appear before the Committee on November 16 to respond to queries from the State Auditor General's office in respect of the Audited Reports for 2018 and 2019 financial year.

Chairman of the committee,Hon. Musefiu Lamidi who issued the summon , also directed that the bureau's Director of Finance and Accounts, Sobande Kolawole to appear before the Committee for further clarifications before the lawmakers on the same day Monday, 16th of November .

Musefiu in company of other lawmakers issued the summon on Thursday, while examining the financial and audit records for the year 2018 to 2019 as presented by the incumbent Director General, Aina Salami at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to the lawmakers, the invitation became expedient to enable the officials clarify issues including wrong classification of expenditure as funds were paid for particular items in its expenditure under different sub-heads and project titles contrary to the financial regulations/extant rules,.

These alleged irregularities according to the reports , also  breached the due process guidelines and revenue achievements amongst others.

The House Committee asked the bureau to avail the lawmakers with documents including reviewed budget performance of the agency between January 2015 and December 31st, 2019.
