Ogun SWAN Asks Gov.Dapo Abiodun To Sign Sports Commission, Sports Trust Fund Bills





Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ogun State has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to give his assent to the two bills, establishing the State Sports Commission and the State Sports Trust Fund, to fastrack development of sports in the state.

The State Sports Commission to be headed by Director General, is expected to replace the State Sports Council ,in ensuring effective running of sports in the state while the State Sports Trust Fund will mobilize the needed financial resources from organized private sector to prepare the state athletes for major sporting events in the country.

SWAN in a Communique issued at the end of its State Congress in Abeokuta on Thursday, expressed concern that the two are still in the limbo after their passage by the State House of Assembly, during the eight legislature .

The Congress ,however commended the Federal Government for lifting the ban on contact sports in the country and urged stakeholders to ensure that all COVID-19 protocols are put in place.

The Congress Called on the Nigeria Football Federation to distribute the palliatives from the world Football Governing body, FIFA as soon as the  body receives the money.

The congress also urged the League clubs in Ogun State to hit the ground running immediately with preparations as the ban on contact sports has been lifted by the Presidential Committee on COVID-19.

SWAN  in the Communique admonished the clubs to also put in place COVID-19 protocols as well as conduct Covid-19 tests for players and officials.

The congress advised the state ministry of youth and sports and the sports council to work hands in glove so as to ensure that the state athletes get the best of preparation ahead of the 2020 National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 which is still likely to go ahead this year.
