Odun Omo-Olowu Day 2020:Olowu Honours Amosun, Veteran Broadcaster ,Police Chief

The Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom, Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu,  has honoured former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, veteran broadcast journalist, Yeye Oluwaseyi Aderinokun and police chief, Chief Suprintendent of Police,Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi for their distinguished contributions to the society.

Oba Dosunmu during grand-finale of the Odun Omo-Olowu Day 2020 held on Saturday at his Oke Ago-Owu Abeokuta, palace, said the awardees had distinguished themselves and deserved to be rewarded with Distinguished Sons and Daughter Awards of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom.

Amosun representing Ogun Central at the Senate was absent at the event but was recognized for his effort  at ensuring the growth of the country, which included his contributions to development of the state in his eight years tenure as governor of the state between 2011 and 2019.

A veteran broadcast journalist and Yeyemeto of Owu- Abeokuta Kingdom , Oluwaseyi Aderinokun was also honoured with "Distinguished Daughter of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom" for her outstanding contributions to the media industry in Nigeria.

Aderinokun who retired as Manager Network News from the Nigerian Television Authority is a Federal Commissioner at the National Population Commission Abuja, serving her second term in office because of her excellent work.

Another awardee , CSP Saheed Egbeyemi, Chairman, Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit was recognized for his notable effort at ensuring peace in the society.

Governor Dapo Abiodun represented by his deputy, Engr(Mrs), Noimot Salako-Oyedele at the colourful cultural festival, pledged a sum of #5million to the Owu Socio-Economic Development Council for the growth of the Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom.

The governor described "Harmony" chosen as  the theme  for the 21st edition of Odun Omo-Olowu Day as timely,promising that the state government would always partner with the council and similar development councils, to drive the economy of the state and  ensure its rapid growth .

Dignitaries who graced the colourful cultural festival included former president of Nigeria and Balogun of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom, Olusegun Obasanjo, Agura of Gbagura-Abeokuta, Oba Sabur Babajide Isola Bakre , the Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo was  represented by high powered delegate led by Jaguna of Egbaland, High Chief Yinka Kufile, the Alake of Egbaland ,some members of the State Executive Council,the Owu Obas within and outside Ogun State, Owu high chiefs , Baales as well as Chief Imam of the kingdom, Alhaji Sulaiman Akorede Kehinde and Hausa Community Leaders from Agege in Lagos State, amongst others .
 
There was also traditional cutting of new yam known as "Ella-Isu " done by the Olowu to commence eating of yams by Owu sons and daughters as well as fund raising for the development of the Owu-Abeokuta kingdom. 

The Odun Omo-Olowu Day 2020 continues on Sunday with Thanksgiving service.
