The Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation has distributed N10million worth of educational materials including 6,500 exercise books and 550 school bags to deserving 800 pupils from selected public schools across Ogun state, just as the foundation called for more donors to support the education of less privileged children in the state
The State Co-ordinator of the foundation, Alhaji (Town Planner) Anifowose Rahman Kewulere made this known during a brief presentation ceremony of the 5th edition of Back To School project
held on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the State capital, where beneficiaries from Nawair-ud-Deen High School, Ijeun, Nawair-ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Nawair-ud-Deen Primary School, Ansar-ud-Deen Grammar School, Saint Leos College, Saint Peters College, Saje High School, Saint Paul Demonstration School 1, Ebenezar Baptist Primary School, Obafemi-Owode LGA Primary School as well as Lantoro High School and other individual learners were given the educational materials
"The State Co-ordinator used the occasion to call on individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists,
community leaders and well-to-do members of the society to partner with the Foundation"
According to him, there are still many children whose educational needs remain unmet.
"There are families that need support.
There are young people whose potential can be unlocked through relatively modest interventions", he stated
"Let us therefore build a culture in which giving is not restricted to moments of crisis. Let us make giving an investment in humanity"
For him, this year's back to school project is not merely about distributing school bags, books or writing materials. It is about restoring hope, reducing the burden on vulnerable families and giving children the confidence to return to school prepared, encouraged and ready to learn.
He described the distribution of the educational materials to beneficiaries as an investment in their future , saying the Foundation remains committed to the principle that Zakat and Sadaqah should not only provide temporary relief, but should contribute to building stronger families, stronger communities and a more hopeful future
"The Foundation has also supported education through other interventions, including educational warfare
and educational assistance within its wider Zakat distribution activities", he stated
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the educational materials
"What you are receiving today is not a replacement for hard work. It is a support system. Use these materials wisely. Take your studies seriously.
Respect your parents, guardians and teachers", he advised
Similarly, Chairman of the event and Rector of D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ewekoro, Prof. Rauf Adegoke Akeem emphasized the importance of education, urging the learners to make good use of free educational materials by being serious with their education to ensure a bright future
He then admonished parents to shun the unholy act of beating teachers in schools, saying they should ensure all-round development of their children right from respective homes
Also Guest Lecturer at the event and Registrar, The Bliss College of Technology (BLISCOTECH) Alhaji Saheed Odedele in his presentation titled Learning SMART Not HARD, offering tips on how to study to succeed in their educational pursuits
He identified the need for learners to be consistent, concentrate and always correct their mistakes in learning process
High point of the event included presentation of educational materials and special awards to the Merciful Foundation based in Texas, United States of America and Mr. Thanni Babatunde Ahmed for their continuous support to the Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation
