Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), is restructuring its zonal offices with the renaming of the position of Zonal Secretary to Zonal Coordinating Principals for more effective administration and service delivery in the secondary education sector in the state
Chairman of the commission, Apostle 'Biodun Sanyaolu made this known at the end of a screening exercise for 41 prospective Zonal Coordinating Principals, 105 Principals and 250 Vice Principals in Public Secondary Schools across the State, at African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta.
The Commission Chairman said the decision was imperative to correct the "long-overdue aberration" of placing Zonal Secretaries above Principals, adding that the new arrangement aligned with Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
He stated that TESCOM was committed to repositioning the teaching workforce for efficient service delivery, noting that the Commission’s transformation agenda was geared toward growth in the education sector.
“The present administration in this Commission is determined to ensure that things are done in the right way. We are doing everything possible to elevate the teaching workforce and enhance their capacities for growth and development in the course of their duties,” he said.
The TESCOM Boss assured that the screening exercise would hold at regular intervals to aid career progression, urging prospective Vice Principals to shun sharp practices, desist from lobbying for postings and maintain cordial relationships with Principals for effective school administration.
Also speaking, Full-Time CommissionerI and Chairman of the Screening Committee, Hon. Adeola Akintande, said the exercise was successful, saying the candidates demonstrated competences for the positions.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Noah Sewakanu, commended TESCOM for the initiative, pledging the union’s continued support for government policies and programmes.
Two of the of the candidates, Mr. Johnson Dehinbo and Mrs. Adebisi Idowu, described the exercise as a worthwhile step that would prepare them for the Vice Principal position.
