The Ogun State Government has commenced the testing, commissioning and trial operation of newly installed state-of-the-art training equipment across Government Technical Colleges (GTCs) and Government Technical and Vocational Colleges (GTVCs) under the World Bank-funded Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP)

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu monitored the trial operations of the equipment, at the Government Technical and Vocational College, Isabo, and Government Technical College, Idi-Aba
Arigbabu represented by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), Mrs. Mojisola Adenowo, said the two colleges were the first set of schools scheduled for the state wide testing and commissioning exercise.
Mrs. Adenowo, explained that the installation was part of the World Bank-supported OGSTEP intervention to strengthen technical and vocational education through the provision of modern training facilities and enhanced capacity building for instructors across the State.
She described the exercise as another major milestone in the revitalisation of technical education in Ogun State and commended Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering commitment to skills development through strategic investments in the state-of-the-art training equipment, particularly for garment making and leatherwork.
She added that instructors had undergone intensive training on the operation, handling and maintenance of the equipment to ensure its effective utilisation and equipping students with industry-relevant practical skills for employability and self-reliance.
Mrs. Adenowo, further stated that the testing and commissioning exercise would continue across all designated Government Technical Colleges and Government Technical and Vocational Colleges in line with the approved schedule until every installed piece of equipment has been tested, commissioned and certified fit for use.
Speaking on behalf of TVET, Eagle Scientific group, UK, the supplier of the equipment, the company’s representative, Michael Omisore, appreciated the Ogun State Government and the OGSTEP Project Implementation Unit for the opportunity to support the transformation of technical and vocational education in the State.
He noted that the installation, testing and commissioning of the equipment reflected a shared commitment to equipping students with industry-standard skills, assuring that the equipment was installed in line with global standards, while pledging continued technical support for optimal performance and sustainability.
"We are pleased to partner with Ogun State Government in delivering modern equipment that meets international training standards. Our team remains committed to ensuring that the equipment functions optimally and that instructors receive the necessary technical support to maximise its use. We are confident that these facilities will significantly enhance practical learning and better prepare students for the demands of today's workforce," he said.
The Eagle Scientific UK representative, further admonished instructors and students to make proper use of the equipment, emphasising careful handling, regular maintenance and strict adherence to operational guidelines to ensure its longevity and maximise its benefits for technical and vocational training.
In their separate remarks, the Principals of Government Technical and Vocational College, Isabo, Mrs. Ifeoluwa Falola and the Government Technical College, Idi-Aba, Mr. Ellias Olatubosun, described the intervention as a transformative initiative that had significantly enhanced the training capacity of their schools.
They noted that the installation of the modern equipment would expose students to contemporary industry practices, improve the quality of practical training, boost productivity and contribute to the economic development of Ogun State.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Adeoye Adetola of Government Technical and Vocational College, Isabo, and Goodness Olaoluwa of Government Technical College, Idi-Aba, expressed excitement over the newly installed equipment, noting that it would make learning more practical, engaging and relevant to industry needs.
