A total of 306 out of 3,521 students who graduated at the 24th Nova Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony of Babcock University finished with First Class degrees
Miss Oluwapelumi Oluwatobiloba Amosu emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.96.
She was honoured for excellence in leadership, academics, community and spiritual service, and received multiple awards including the President’s Award, Senior Vice President’s Award for the highest CGPA at undergraduate level, the Professors Ademola and Grace Tayo Award for excellence in character, leadership and academics, and the Bethbiree Genius Award of N10 million, among others.
Other recipients of the Senior Vice President’s Award were Toyin Ezekiel Olalere of the undergraduate part-time programme with a CGPA of 4.56, and Olamide Babatunde Raheem of BUCODel with a CGPA of 4.92.
Delivering the commencement lecture,Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State told the graduates that Babcock had given them the best foundation possible.
“The world will not give you what you believe you deserve. The world will only give you what the community demands of you. This is the end of one chapter and the start of another. A university is like a nest,” he said.
He urged them to embrace resilience: “Don’t ask how many times you fall, but how many times you get up. Don’t give up the first time, the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth. Never, never, never, never give up.”
In his welcome address, President/Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, said the university’s compass under his 8-month-old administration is “GRACE.”
He explained that significant investments have been made in physical and technological infrastructure to support teaching, learning, research and student life, and that a digital transformation roadmap has been developed.
He announced key donations including a modern Department of Music and Performing Arts by alumnus David Adeleke, a vocational and skill development centre by Dr. Akinyele Oladeji in partnership with Babcock Business School, and the near-completion of the Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu School of Pharmacy donated by Sir Kensington Adebutu.
Professor Ojewole charged graduates to “dream boldly, work diligently and lead with integrity,” and urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution.
