Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has charged 3,531 fresh graduands of Babcock University including 306 who bagged first class honours to break new ground, saying the future belongs to those who are bold enough to make meaningful changes through innovative ideas in ever dynamic global community
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the charge on Sunday in his commencement lecture at the 24th Convocation of the university for the 2025/2026 academic session at its stadium complex on the Ilishan-Remo main campus in Ogun State
He urged the fresh graduands to demonstrate high level of discipline and integrity in their daily conduct and relationships with people, maintaining that the university had given them enough quality training required to excel in their chosen career with out any excuses not to succeed in life
Sanwo-Olu recalled how his administration in Lagos was able to transformed Nigeria's commerce City one of the fastest growing economies in Africa from inherited N800 billion budget size in 2019 to the current over N4 trillion budget size, through various initiatives to impact positively on the lives of Lagosians and drive the economy of the State
The governor urged the fresh graduands to avoid any form of distractions and be focused on actualization of their dreams in life, insisting they must be good ambassadors of Babcock University, an institution noted for academic excellence
President/Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole had earlier in his convocation speech rolled out how Babcock University has continued to transform under the GRACE agenda of his administration, particularly sustenance of the global relevance of the university making it among Nigeria's 24 ranked universities in the world
He assured that Babcock University under his leadership would continue to produce graduates whose competence , character and creative can stand confidently anywhere in the world
The Vice-Chancellor added that positive assessment of National Universities Commission and professional regulatory bodies further demonstrated investment of the university in quality assurance, infrastructure and academic excellence
"The School of Law and Security Studies secured an increase in its admission quota from 100 to 160 students - a strong vote of confidence in quality of legal education at Babcock University. Thirteen programmes successfully received re-accreditation , while twenty-seven new programmes were presented to the National Universities Commission, including the restoration of International Law and Diplomacy, further expanding our global academic offerings", he revealed
The Vice-Chancellor who pledged commitment to strengthening teaching, learning and professional development, expressed the commitment of Babcock University to always produce graduates not just merely for employment but for leadership in an increasing dynamic global environment
"Together, under God's guidance and through the transforming power of GRACE, we will build a Babcock University that is stronger, more influential, more innovative and more impactful than ever before ", he assured
Also Chancellor/Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, Pastor(Prof.)Bassey Effiong Okon Udoh pledged the commitment of the board in ensuring that Babcock University continues to produce quality graduates who are not only compassionate but also uphold ethical standards
He charged Graduands to be good ambassadors of the university by always upholding high level of character of integrity which is beyond possessing degree certificate
Amosu Oluwapelumi Oluwatobiloba from Economics Department, Faculty of Social Sciences, emerged as overall best graduating student with 4.96, winning N10 million Cash Prize for the 2025/2026 academic session
