No fewer than twenty-five (25) final-year students of the Arabic and Islamic Studies Department, Faculty of Arts, Lagos State University, *have received cash grants under the Support Award initiative of the Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo Amuni Educational Foundation
The programme organized by the Department of Foreign Languages, Lagos State University, in collaboration with the Foundation, was held in memory of the late Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo *AMUNI*, whose enduring legacy of educational advancement and philanthropy continues to impact the lives of students.
The award presentation ceremony, held recently on Tuesday, 7th July, 2026, at the Language Laboratory, Faculty of Arts, Lagos State University, Ojo, brought together members of the University community, distinguished academics, philanthropists, and students in a shared commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting research at the undergraduate level.
Welcoming participants to the event, the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Dr S. O. Timehin , described the initiative as a remarkable demonstration of the positive impact of collaboration between the University and philanthropic organisations.
He noted that the project support award would ease the financial burden associated with final-year research while motivating students to pursue academic excellence with greater dedication.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello , was represented by Dr Lateef Shekoni, Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, who commended the Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo Amuni Educational Foundation for complementing the University’s efforts in advancing quality education.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to producing quality research, describing the award as both a reward for diligence and an investment in future scholars and leaders.
In his remarks, the facilitator, Professor Abdulkudus Amuni , explained that the Foundation was established to preserve the legacy of the late Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo Amuni
through sustained investments in education and human capital development.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support received and remain worthy ambassadors of the Foundation.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Ayo Ayodele applauded the Foundation for its unwavering commitment to supporting students and promoting educational development.
The Dean who described the initiative as a worthy investment in the future of the nation, demonstrated his support for the Foundation’s vision, with a personal financial donation towards sustaining the project.
The Special Guest of Honour, Professor Moruf S. Animashaun , also commended the Foundation for sustaining an initiative that directly addresses students’ academic needs.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their educational goals ,
announcing a personal donation to further support the Foundation’s intervention in students’ academic development.
Highlighting the vision behind the initiative, Professor Abdulkudus Amuni stated that *the Foundation remains committed to providing financial support to deserving students and encouraging academic excellence in honour of the late Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo Amuni .
He thereafter presented cash awards to the twenty-five beneficiaries, charging them to uphold the values of integrity, hard work, and service to humanity.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Maryam Motunrayo Lawal expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Foreign Languages and the Alhaji (Chief) Abdulwahab Oladipupo Amuni Educational Foundation for the timely intervention.
She noted that the award would significantly support the completion of their final-year research projects and pledged that the beneficiaries would justify the confidence reposed in them through academic excellence and exemplary conduct.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Arts, Dr Tijani Mogaji who appreciated the Foundation, University Management, invited guests, members of staff, and all stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the initiative.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would continue to expand educational opportunities for students and inspire similar interventions across the University.
