Veteran former National Basketball Coach, Chief Alabi Adelanwa will be conferred as the Baba-Ijo of the African Church Cathedral in Owu-Kingdom in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on this Saturday June 27, 2026, beginning from 10 am
The Nigeria's basketball icon and Baba-Oba of Owu in an interview with Edu-biznews on Tuesday at his country home in Abeokuta, described the Conferment as honour and divined call to be more committed to the service of God and humanity in the society
Chief Adelanwa who produced a number of legends in the game of basketball including the likes of ex-NBA stars, Akeem Olajuwon and former captain of D', Tigers, Olumide Oyedeji , recalled his growing days at the tender age of five as active member of the African Church in Owu-Abeokuta, promising to dedicate the rest of life in ensuring further growth of the church
"I see the honour of being conferred as Baba-Ijo of Owu- African Church Cathedral as a divined call to serve humanity and be more alive to my responsibility to serve both the church and by extension the society", he pledged
The Octogenarian expressed his deep appreciation to entire members of the church for deeming it fit to honour him with such prestigious title as 'Baba-Ijo of African Church Cathedral at Ita-Iyalode, Owu-Abeokuta
Reception and entertainment of guests will hold at the same venue of the church located opposite Gateway Secondary School, Ita-Iyalode in Abeokuta North Local Government Area
