Ogun Govt Constitutes Safe School Committee To Address Insecurity, Curb Social Vices Among Learners

Ogun State Government has officially inaugurated the Safe School Steering Committee, with the goal of implementing comprehensive safety and security measures across all educational institutions in the State, to address social vices affecting learners, strengthen Child protection and provide response mechanism with actionable plans among others.

The initiative is part of the proactive measures being taken by the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration in the state to prevent the ugly incident of attack by bandits against three schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where teachers and pupils abducted are still in captivity since May 15, 2026

Special Assistant to the Governor on Security matters, AIG Olusola Subair (retired) and relevant government Officials from various Agencies and key stakeholders attended the meeting where the Committee was inaugurated at the State Education, Science and Technology Commissioner's Conference room, Oke -Mosan, Abeokuta, 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, who chaired the meeting, commended the proactive initiative of Governor Dapo Abiodun, aimed at protecting lives, ensuring conducive learning environment devoid of ravaging insecurity challenges and social vices among learners across schools.

He enjoined the committee to deliver on its terms of reference and develop the State Safe School Action Plan by fostering collaboration with necessary agencies, saying that the initiative was a collborative efforts between the Federal and State government to protect learners, Teachers and School infrastructure from security threats, cultism, drug abuse among others that could disrupt quality education.

In their separate contributions, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, SA to the Governor on Security, AIG ( Retired) Olusola Subair, representative of the NSCDC, Ogun State Command and other stakeholders, maintained that the Committee would work round the clock in accordance with its set objectives to protect the lives of all learners,calling on the people to desist from spreading rumours that could cause serious security panic in the state.

Some of the security measures outlined by the Committee included, efforts at ensuring continuity of education without fear of violence or disruption, building public confidence in the safety of educational institutions in the state and implementing early warning systems for threat detection and rapid response across schools in the state.
