Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), has lauded the Ogun State Business Development Committee (OGSBDC) Network and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on a well conducted and insightful Tax Environment Assessment Report.
The Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Olugbenga Olaleye, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the representatives of the organisations at the OGIRS' Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Olaleye, appreciated the organisations for producing a detailed and informative report, however, clarifying that contrary to the position presented in the assessment, Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States were still in the process of domesticating the presumptive tax system, reiterating that the Joint Revenue Board (JRB) were the appropriate body to coordinate the entire process and ensure uniformity and harmony across the tax administration system.
"In terms of digitalisation, OGIRS is doing very well and as a State, we have made significant progress in that regard," he said.
He further noted that the Agency had consistently engaged the media to educate and enlighten taxpayers on the tax payment process, hence, taxpayers should not fall victim to the activities of tax touts, appealing to GIZ for support in the provision of equipment such as laptops, desktop computers and tablets to enhance operational efficiency.
Earlier, Director General of the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency (OGSEDA) and GIZ Technical Officer, Mr. Olusegun Dada, expressed appreciation to OGIRS for the warm reception and constructive engagement extended to the delegation during previous advocacy visits.
He stated that the engagement had provided an opportunity to discuss key findings of the assessment, identified priority areas for reform and would further strengthen the existing partnership among OGIRS, GIZ and other stakeholders.
