The move which makes it easy for the retirees to enjoy free health insurance scheme, further demonstrates the stern commitment of the administration to the welfare and dignity of retired Public Servants in Ogun State, Ogun State
The State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, disclosed this, while speaking with Journalist in his office at Abeokuta, said the initiative was designed to cater for retired Public Servants, thereby ensuring that they continue to enjoy access to quality and affordable healthcare services after retirement.
According to him, the Governor had approved the payment of 17.4 million Naira monthly for the payment of the retiree health insurance premium, adding that all retirees would enjoy the full insurance coverage without paying or contributing any amount.
Onasanya explained that the gesture showed the present administration commitment towards the welfare of retirees, another significant milestone under the ‘Social Welfare and Wellbeing’ agenda of the present administration, aimed at safeguarding the health and wellbeing of retired officers who devoted their productive years of their lives to the service and development of Ogun State.
He revealed that the laudable initiative followed the successful implementation of the Public Sector Health Insurance Scheme for serving Public Servants, introduced by the State Government in August, 2024 and further reflected the deliberate policy direction of Government towards inclusive healthcare coverage for all categories of workers, including those in retirement.
Onasanya noted further that under the Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme (OGRHIS), beneficiaries would have access to a defined package of healthcare services through accredited healthcare facilities across the State, thus, enhancing a reduction in medical expenses and prevent catastrophic healthcare spending among retirees.
He noted that by prioritising the health and welfare of pensioners, Governor Abiodun had once again reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and responsible leadership that valued the contributions of those who laid the foundation upon which successive administrations had continued to build.
Onasanya called on the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA) and all relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless enrolment, effective sensitisation and smooth implementation of the Scheme in order to guarantee that retirees fully benefit from the laudable intervention.
Appreciating the gesture, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the State, Mr. Waheed Oloyede, commended the Governor, saying that the initiative would greatly erase health related expenses, as many of the senior citizens were battling with multiple health challenges which needed continuous check-ups and medications, but, with the free health insurance scheme, a new lease of life had been opened.
