Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has commenced arrangements with the Canadian Education Council (CEC) toward establishing a strategic partnership aimed at expanding international academic and career opportunities for students.
The initiative forms part of the rebranding and repositioning agenda of the administration led by the Rector, Arc. Dr. 'Koye Jolaoso, aimed at enhancing global relevance and employability among MAPOLY graduates.
The proposed partnership according to a statement by Head, Public Relations & Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, is expected to facilitate international internship opportunities for students, as well as the establishment of an International Career Centre (ICC) within the Polytechnic.
Speaking during a meeting with the Management of the institution, the CEC Director of Students Engagement and Partnership Support, Dr. John Adeniyi, explained that the collaboration was designed to complement the Polytechnic’s academic excellence by preparing students for global career opportunities.
According to him, the initiative seeks to establish international career services similar to those obtainable in leading universities across the world, thereby making students and graduates more employable and globally competitive.
“We are here to see how we can complement the efforts of the Management. MAPOLY is already providing solid academic standards, but beyond academics, students should also be prepared to become globally competitive for opportunities,” he stated.
Responding on behalf of the Management, the Acting Rector, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, described the initiative as highly commendable and consistent with the institution’s vision of equipping students with industry-relevant skills, global exposure, and enhanced employability.
She noted that MAPOLY remains a reputable institution known for producing outstanding professionals across various fields of endeavour.
“MAPOLY is a brand known for quality graduates who have continued to distinguish themselves in their respective careers. We sincerely appreciate your decision to choose our institution as one of your beneficiary institutions,” she added.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the operational framework of the proposed partnership, internship modalities (both on-site and remote), eligibility requirements, financial obligations, and other implementation strategies.
As part of efforts to ensure the timely commencement of the initiative, the CEC Director, alongside members of his team, including Mr. Samuel Oluwasegun and Mrs. Rashidat Kuye, toured facilities proposed for the take-off of the International Career Centre (ICC).
The team was accompanied by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Samuel Ashaye; Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Olayiwola Sojobi; Director of SIWES, Dr. Monsur Popoola; Coordinator, MAPOLY Career Service Centre, Dr. Sola Adeosun; and other designated staff members.
