A member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Samsudeen Lawal has reaffirmed that Eba Island is part of his constituency in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the State contrary to the claim by the Ondo State Government.
Both states are laying claim to the Island, given its economic importance as an oil rich area
But Hon. Lawal, who is also the Assembly’s Minority Whip gave the clarification recently during an interview at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He urged the State Assembly, Ogun State government, and the National Assembly to intensify efforts towards ensuring the success of the exploration activities on the island to boost the socio-economic development of the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and the State.
According to him, "as a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in Ogun State, I can confirm that all historical facts and records confirmed that the area belongs to Ogun Waterside, and the primary school in the area belongs to Ogun State, and the political ward is also in Ogun State.
The claim from the Ondo State Government that the land belongs to them is null and void".
He commended Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the State for its resolve in attracting huge investment opportunities to all parts of the State, noting that the success of the oil exploration at Eba Island in Ogun State remained pivotal to boosting economic prosperity of the entire State.
