Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta Alumni Association,( MAPALUM) has joined the institution's chapter of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics in calling for upward review of monthly subvention given by the Ogun State Government to the polytechnic even as the alumni association promised to reach out to its prominent members, other stakeholders and partners both within and outside the country to compliment infrastructural growth, scholarships and strategic initiatives, so as to sustain the State's premier polytechnic's legacy of excellence
National President of MAPALUM, Alhaji Ayinde Soaga , a veteran broadcast journalist who graduated as pioneer member of the 1985 set of Mass Communication Department, also charged fresh students admitted into the institution for National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes to depend less on academic qualifications and make good use of practical skills included in their respective curriculum to create jobs for themselves
Alhaji Soaga was speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta on Tuesday on the campus of the institution, ahead of its 2025/2026 Matriculation and maiden lecture which has its theme "Building a Solid Foundation; The Synergy of Character and Competence" , holding on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Main Auditorium
" I want to use this opportunity to appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun to please increase the government's monthly subvention to MAPOLY, Polytechnic education is about hands-on skills which requires adequate funding of various accredited academic programmes being offered", he pleaded
The MAPALUM National President accompanied by other top members of the association, promised that steps would be taken to mobilize the needed financial resources to rehabilitate the major roads on the campus to further compliment the efforts of both government and management of the institution
"We call on all alumni, stakeholders and partners both within Nigeria and abroad to rise in support of MAPOLY through mentorship, infrastructure development, scholarships and strategic initiatives that will sustain and enhance the institution's legacy of excellence"
He equally solicited for the partnership of media in amplifying the achievements to the needed corporate and individual support, in order to sustain the leading position of MAPOLY as centre for production of quality graduates in the likes of the immediate former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun whose administration transformed Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital into one of the notable cities in the country, first female Accountant General of the Federation, Dr.(Mrs) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein who recently retired from the service, the Rector of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ewekoro, Prof.Goke Rauf , the incumbent Rector, Dr. (Arc.) Adekoyejo Joloaoso, the Director of School of Communication and General Studies, Dr. Shina Aina , the Olota of Ota , Oba(Prof.) Abdul Kabir Adeyemi Obalanlegbe amongst others

MAPALUM National President also cited Otunba Laide Fowosere whom according to him, has made remarkable contributions to enterprise, community development and social initiatives
He then urged the fresh students to be outstanding ambassadors of MAPOLY, carrying the name of the institution with pride in all human endeavours
"We enjoin you to strive to uphold this tradition of excellence in both academic and extracurricular engagement", he charged
The alumni association expressed confidence that the institution would continue to mould leaders, innovators and change-makers who will drive development in Nigeria and beyond
