Students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta have joined the growing list of stakeholders calling for upward review of the monthly subvention, describing the N20.7 million given to the institution on monthly basis by the Ogun State Government as grossly inadequate, considering its monthly expenditures put at N216 million
Both the institution's branch of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association (MAPALUM) had earlier pleased with the government to increase its funding to prevent the polytechnic from going bankrupt
President of the Student Union Government of MAPOLY, Comrade Afolabi Temitope who made the call on behalf of students on campus during the recently held 2025/2026 Matriculation ceremony for the fresh students admitted, pleaded with Governor Dapo Abiodun to increase the monthly subvention as promised by his administration.
He appealed for urgent financial intervention of government through improved monthly subvention to ensure stability in the polytechnic, saying doing so will restore the lost the lost glory of MAPOLY among comity of tertiary institutions, particularly in South West, Nigeria
"I will like to.use this opportunity to urge Ogun State Government to please help us in ensuring improved funding to the institution, (MAPOLY)) " the polytechnic is currently receiving N20.7 million as it's monthly.subvention from government while the institution is spending N216 million on monthly basis "
"Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta is a foremost tertiary institution in South-West, Nigeria, but the institution is now sitting in the back seat and living on past glory
"We are pleading with the State Government to please increase the monthly subvention, we need the money on campus to survive as an institution", he appealed
The SUG President, however lauded Governor Abiodun for redeeming his pledge to give each of the overall best graduating students of the institutions N2.5 million cash prize, saying he should do the same by increasing the monthly subvention to MAPOLY as promised during the last convocation ceremony of the institution
