TESCOM Begins Redistribution Of Teachers To Address Imbalance In Public Secondary Schools In Ogun

Ogun State Teaching Service Commission has started the redistribution of teachers in public secondary schools, as part of practical steps being taken to address the imbalance in the deployment of teachers between urban and rural areas in the state 

The commission in a statement on Saturday , implored affected teachers to accept their postings in good faith, by reporting and resuming to their new duty posts with immediate effect

The commission was reacting to the wide spread anxiety the ongoing redistribution exercise has generated among teachers in the public secondary schools in the state 

The State Chairman of TESCOM, Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu in the statement, 

explained that the re-distribution exercise was designed to ensure that available subject teachers are placed in schools at the required ratio

'It is imperative to state that the present re-distribution process is not to create any inconvenience to our esteemed teachers or their families but to address the lopsidedness which has become the order of the day when teachers' postings are carried out", he clarified 

The Commission according to him, has taken into account the need to promote equity and fairness in teachers' deployment, particularly for teachers who have spent over 5 years in a particular public school

"We have cases of teachers who have spent over 20 years in the same school"

"The re-deployment exercise is expected to promote professionalism and development among teachers, as well as improve the overall quality of education in the state public secondary schools"

The TESCOM boss blamed the shortage of teachers at schools, particularly in rural areas and some semi-urban areas on the lopsidedness in the distribution of teachers 

'This unfortunately and sadly enough has given way to having public schools where some have huge excesses of teaching staff while most others especially in semi-urban and rural public schools lack enough staffing"

"This sad situation gives credence to the parlance that - Ogun State lacks enough teachers, whereas, this is not the real position", he stated 

Sanyaolu described the ongoing redistribution exercise as part of the commission's statutory responsibilities; to promote effective teaching and learning towards achieving the revitalization Agenda - ISEYA of the present Administration in Ogun State.
