A Professor of Old Testament and Church Ministry, Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole has taken over the leadership of Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, unveiling his blueprint for complete transformation of the university in the next five years, under his watch as Vice-Chancellor/President
Prof.Ojewole revealed his blueprint after taking over from his predecessor, Prof. Ademola Tayo who managed the affairs of the university for ten years between 2015 and 2025
The new Vice-Chancellor during the colourful inauguration held on Monday at the university's stadium on its main campus at Ilishan-Remo, disclosed that the blueprint would prioritize development of people above profit or any other interests
He explained that his blueprint would be guided by the ACRONYM “G.R.A.C.E. which according to him, translate to building people that are globally relevant and exposed, through academic diplomacy, international accreditation, and digital transformation
Aside the G which stands for globally relevant institution, he said that R would focus on Research, saying his administration in the next five years will be driven by focusing and encouraging Research by both lecturers and students
"Building people that are research focused and innovative; linking inquiry to public impact and gospel mission"
"Building people that are Adventist-rooted with doctrinal fidelity and moral governance"
"Building people to become competent leaders that are committed with Christlike character. · Entrepreneurial: Building people that entrepreneurial, creating jobs and making redemptive economic impact", he stated
The new Vice-Chancellor charged the university community to arise and join hands with him in building a Babcock University that is committed to building people, Smart Classrooms and Research Laboratories that match international standard ·
'We will use the technology supporting Finance, HR, Bursary, Registry, the Teaching Hospital, and other units that is efficient, reliable, and capable of enhancing our growth", he assured
The new Vice-Chancellor quickly announced changes in some of the policies to prioritize the welfare of staff during his administration, saying the
HR Department will be called: Office of Employee , Growth and Well-being (GROW)
"MY Agenda is to BUILD MEN and WOMEN. Prioritize People, not profit People not programs People, not Popularity People’s welfare over pecuniary gain People above politics Employee welfare over Employer Wealth Caring over Capitalism"
'We will use the technology supporting Finance, HR, Bursary, Registry, the Teaching Hospital, and other units that is efficient, reliable, and capable of enhancing our growth. · Through system automation and integration, we shall reduce manual processes, eliminate bottlenecks, and ensure faster service delivery to students, staff, and management. This shall improve accuracy, transparency, and overall institutional performance," he pledged
The new Vice-Chancellor also revealed his administration to increase the number of international students by 50% while ensuring standardized curriculum with 100% accreditation and certifications with global bodies ·
He equally promised to give priority to digital education in the university
"Increasing number of top computer science students per year as paid interns. · · Boost in ICT satisfaction across faculty and students multidisciplinary hubs that serve as platforms for collaboration that funding and grants"he stated
Prof. Ojewole later had lunch with the media, mostly members of Education Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN led by its Chairman, Mojeed Alabi who assured the new leadership of the university of objective reportage of activities of the institution
He said that the media would be constructive in its criticism to ensure that university does not compromise on the high quality standard already laid by the previous administration of the institutions
