Nigeria's premier tertiary institution, Yaba College of Technology Lagos has announced its groundbreaking research feat with the establishment of Plastogas, an ingenious research that generates gas from waste plastic, just as the college disclosed the accreditation of new academic programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
The new academic programmes include Higher National Diploma HND ( Agribusiness Management ) full time , HND (Marine Engineering ) full time, HND (Mechatronics Engineering Technology) full time , HND ( Welding & Fabrication Engineering ) full time , National Diploma ( Railway Engineering Technology) full time, ND ( Taxation ) fulltime and ND ( Transport Planning and Management ) full time
Rector of the college, Dr(Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul made this known over the weekend at the press conference marking the commencement of the 37th Convocation Ceremony of the 78 year-old institution holding on Thursday, November 20, 2025 on its main campus in Yaba area of Lagos
"This achievement has once more placed the College in global spotlight as one of the very few institutions around the world that have worked in this area. The research, supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria, is a testimony to our enviable slogan of “…the first is still the best”, he stated
YabaTech according to him, has updated its curricula to reflect current industry needs and technological trends in the country
"New courses and modern teaching methods have been introduced, equipping our students with the skills required to thrive in today’s evolving job market. Our collaboration with industries has expanded, offering students practical exposure through internships and joint projects, particularly in areas such as engineering, IT, and applied sciences", Dr. Abdul stated
The Convocation Ceremony which started on Friday with Jumat service at college's mosque, continues on Sunday November 16, 2025 with Church service at the Yusuf Grillo Auditorium, beginning at 4:00 p.m. while the Convocation Lecture comes up on Tuesday November 18, 2025
Guest Lecturer, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, SAN, the Senate leader will be delivering the lecture titled
"Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology for Job Creation and Economic Growth, under the chairmanship of Professor Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
A total of Two hundred and ninety-one (291) students will be graduating with Distinction, Two Thousand, Four hundred and thirty-four (2,434) students will be bagging Upper Credit, Four Thousand, four hundred and three (4,403) are graduating with Lower Credit while the remaining One Thousand, five hundred and twenty-six (1,526) students will receive their diplomas with a Pass grade
