Lagos State University has formally launched its film club, a new community of students and staff passionate about filmmaking.
The club was created during an intensive film directing masterclass led by renowned filmmaker, Dr Obi Emelonye, held at the LASU Innovation Hub, Awori House on the Ojo main campus of the university
The club will be hosting periodic film screenings, industry engagements, creative workshops, and other activities aimed at building a vibrant film culture on campus.
The event marks a significant step in the Hub’s commitment to fostering innovation, creativity, and industry-relevant skills among LASU students and staff.
The intensive film directing master class session, coordinated under the leadership of the Hub Manager, Professor Tunji Azeez, attracted students from the Departments of Theatre and Film, Mass Communication, English, and other related fields.
Dr Emelonye delivered a practical and inspiring training that exposed participants to *directing techniques, cinematic storytelling, and the realities of contemporary filmmaking*.
A major highlight of the training was the engaging discussion on Dr Emelonye’s forthcoming film, _Safari_. Shot across Kenya and Nigeria, _Safari_ expected to have been released nationwide at cinema on *Friday, 21st November 2025*.
From its behind-the-scenes insights to the captivating trailer, the film already promises to be another remarkable masterpiece from the award-winning director.
