Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has revealed the reasons behind naming the newly commissioned magnificent library complex, described as the biggest among universities in West Africa, after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The highly elated Vice-Chancellor during the formal inauguration of the library by the governor on the Ojo main campus of the university held on Tuesday, said the naming of the library as "Babajide Sanwo-Olu Library was to immortalize his name for the administration's commitment to the physical growth and stability of academic activities which has made LASU to be one of the most sought after universities in Nigeria
"We have chosen to name this monumental library in your honour, not only because its completion was realised under your administration, but as a modest way of immortalising your name in the evolving story of this university. In addition, your legacy is firmly etched in the history of Lagos State University, for your unparalleled support, for your commitment to stability, and for your resolute belief in education as the foundation of sustainable progress", she disclosed
It is to your credit, Sir, that our academic calendar has remained stable and uninterrupted, making LASU the preferred destination for admission seekers nationwide.
The academic stability according to her ,
has also reinforced the growing reputation of LASU as a world-class institution of learning, proudly holding its place among the leading universities in Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor then expressed the deepest appreciation to the governor on behalf the entire university community for giving LASU monumental gift, pledging to make the library complex a true cradle of knowledge
"We solemnly pledge to make the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Library Complex a true cradle of knowledge, an intellectual haven where future destinies are shaped, dreams are nurtured, and generations are empowered", she assured
The Vice-Chancellor who said the inauguration of the library complex would go a long way in addressing the university infrastructural needs, appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians and friends of the university to join hands with the management in the noble enterprise of transformation of the institution
"I use this occasion to celebrate distinguished benefactors such as Chief Aderemi Makanjuola, Her Excellency Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, His Royal Majesty Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, the Oloja of Epe, and Honourable Tunji Bello, among others whose enduring contributions to our physical landscape continue to shape our physical and intellectual landscape" , she acknowledged
