Ogun State Government, through its Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has disbursed a sum of N5.66b gratuity to retired Public Primary School Teachers and Local Government retirees.
Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions (BLGP), Engr. Olufisan Osiyale who disclosed this during the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries in Abeokuta, said the present administration would continue to make life more meaningful for pensioners.
Osiyale reiterated government's commitment towards ensuring that lives of Local Government retirees are adequately protected and catered for, especially with the prompt disbursement of their gratuities.
"It is pertinent to state that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is highly concerned about the living standard of retirees and he is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that senior citizens live a decent life. The Governor is of the opinion that those who had served the State conscientiously deserve to be given maximum attention and provision to make their retirement pleasant," he said.
The BLGP boss noted that payment of monthly pensions had been regular and part payment of gratuities were being paid to pensioners with health challenges to take care of their health, pending the full payment of their gratuities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Christiana Adedubu appreciated Governor Abiodun for the disbursement of backlog of gratuities, imploring him to continue the magnanimous gesture which is considered a pathway to true dividends of democracy to the populace, particularly the retired senior citizens.
