Ogun State Government has called for increased collaboration with the Ogun- Osun River Basin Development Authority(OORBDA) in the area of aquaculture development, Land clearing, preparation,irrigation and youth empowerment to boost food security.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon Bolu Owotomo who made the call in Alabata when he paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director and chief executive officer of the Authority , Engr. Dr Adedeji Asiru in his office , emphasized that such collaboration would boost farmers productivity and food production.
Owotomo commended the authority's efforts and highlighted the Ministry's four strategic points namely , increasing productivity , effective agricultural value chain , bringing youth and women into farming and utilisation of abandoned agricultural assets .
on encroachment on government land , the commissioner said the Ministry has adopted inclusive approach through regular community engagements to resolve such challenges.
Engineer Ashiru expressed the OORBDA's commitment to partnering with the state government to boost food security , create jobs and alleviate poverty through its farmers empowerment initiatives.
"we have identified some communities for establishment of irrigation projects to promote year-round farming and would need the support of the state government in the area of Land release " he said.
Asiru disclosed that the Authority through private partnership arrangement has already unveiled several green houses to boost food production noting that the Authority was open to partnership with state governments , corporate bodies and individuals in putting this green houses to use .
Highlights of the visit was the commissioner's tour of the authority's facilities in company of the Special Adviser to the governor on Agriculture, Dr Mrs Angel Adelaja and Directors from the Ministry.
