CAA U18/20 Athletics Championship: Athletes To Be Accommodated At Redemption Camp- Ogun Govt Reveals



Athletes participating at the 3rd Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African U18/20 Athletics Championship holding in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, will be accommodated at the Redemption Camp on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway 


The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka revealed  this while featuring on a Radio Programme in Abeokuta on preparations towards the competition, saying the government would be working with the confederation to ensure a befitting competition 


He expressed the readiness of the state to work with sporting federations and  relevant organizations to host other international competitions , saying the first class facilities at the remodeled MKO Abiola Sports Arena will continue to attract major competitions to the State 


"So far so good, the preparations are in place. We are hosting 44 countries. I am sure that opportunities will keep coming to Ogun State, especially in the sports Sector, because, after this one, we still have about 3 or 4 of this kind between now and December, he said.’’


The State Government's desire according to him, is to become a power house of sports in Nigeria, saying part of the mission of the government is to have a large representation in Team Nigeria to the Olympics


 "Many young State athletes will be participating, representing Team Nigeria at the CAA Championships", he stated


Isiaka says the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration is working on using sports to drive the economy of the state by creating opportunities for young ones to develop their talents  


He described sports as a vibrant avenue that offers an array of opportunities for those aspiring to build a career in the sporting world.


Isiaka revealed that youths could become professional athletes with fulfilling careers within the evolving world of sports, advising them not to let the various opportunities available in the State to pass them by.


He stated that World Champion, Tobi Amusan participated in one of the previous edition of the championship, saying the State was well prepared to produce more Tobi Amusans in future.
