Ogun Govt Seeks Joint Support Of Stakeholders In Fight Against Gender Based Violence

Ogun State Government has called on stakeholders to join forces in combating Gender-Based Violence, (GBV) in the State

The State Commissioner for Women Affair and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye made the call at the quarterly meeting of GBV response network, organised by the Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, at the Ministry's Conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

She emphasised the need for collective actions among Government Agencies, Community Leaders, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) 

The commissioner noted that working together would assist in creating a society where GBV would no longer be tolerated and everyone would live without fear of violenc

The present government according to her, will remain committed to the course and continue its advocacy towards eradicating GBV.

She appreciated UNFPA for supporting and advocating an end to GBV cases in the State while looking forward to more partnership to achieve the feat.

In her remark, UNFPA, Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst, Dr. Esther Somefun noted that a United Front among stakeholders was necessary to end GBV, ensuring that right of citizens would be promoted and protected, while the perpetrators would be prosecuted.

Dr. Somefun stated that the responsive network team was saddled with looking at the coordination on prevention and response to GBV using survivor approach in case management, referral system, information management and capacity building for frontline workers.

In her address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Olajumoke Adewole, charged the participants to always update their data on a regular basis, as this would make their work easier during the quarterly meetings, while calling on them to join hands with the Ministry to fight against Gender Based Violence.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, the SARC Manager, Ijebu Ode, Mrs. Kikelomo Abdul-Raman said the meeting had served as an eye opener to improve on the fight against GBV and also an opportunity to present their activities in their different beats as well.
