Lagos State University (LASU), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is set to launch its Innovation Hub on 2nd July 2025.
The hub which was designed as an incubation centre for ideas, will be providing students, faculty, and industry stakeholders with the tools, mentorship, and resources needed to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.
Some of the objectives of the hub are to strengthen the role of universities in national development, equip students and talents with market-ready business skills before graduation, and provide a collaborative space for research, experimentation, and the development of innovative ideas.
The hub will operating across multiple disciplines, ensuring cross-sector participation from Science, Engineering, Arts, Humanities and Business, with activities such as: Incubation and Acceleration Programmes:
The hub will also be serving as a place to hatch ideas that can lead to the development of student-led start-ups and faculty-driven innovations.
It will encourage the transformation of student ideas, faculty research, and innovations into viable solutions and businesses that attract national and international developments.
Research-Driven Solutions:* The hub will provide a platform for experimentation of research results and innovations to address community and industry challenges. It will also facilitate partnerships between students, faculty, and industry professionals for real-world problem-solving.
3. *Weekly Pop-Up Student Market & LASU Digital Marketplace:* The hub will offer students a platform to showcase and monetise their innovations, as well as create connections between students and potential investors or industry stakeholders.
4. *State-of-the-Art Infrastructure (ICT, Digital Media, etc.):* The hub has been equipped with modern digital infrastructure to facilitate a shared space for idea incubation and enhance creativity, research, and access to cutting-edge digital tools. The shared space will encourage cross-disciplinary collaborations, allowing Arts and Humanities students to contribute through storytelling, branding, and more.
5. *Industry Engagement & Open Day Event:* The hub will establish strong partnerships with private-sector investors, policymakers, and key stakeholders to position LASU as a leading hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. The Open Day event on 2nd July 2025 will grant access to all registered students, enabling them to present their ideas at the hub. They will be provided with experts/mentors who will guide them on feasibility and identify potential investors for their respective ideas.
