Gateway United FC, Officials , Players Mourn the Passing of Former Medical Officer, Ruben Ogunyeye




Gateway United Football Club including its officials and players are  mourning the passing of the team's former Medical Officer, Ruben Ogunyeye, who died in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, after a brief illness.

Ogunyeye served the club with unwavering dedication and professionalism from 2003 to 2021, ensuring the health and well-being of players and staff both on and off the field.

 His over 18 years of meritorious service left an indelible mark on the club’s history.

Reacting to the sad news, 

The Acting General Manager of Gateway United, Niyi Soleye reacting to the sad news in a statement by the club's Media Officer, Moses Ojewumi , described the late Ogunyeye as a compassionate, committed, and reliable team member whose impact extended beyond the medical room.

“Ogunyeye was not just a medical officer; he was a mentor, a father figure, and a stabilizing presence in the club. He played a pivotal role in maintaining player fitness and recovery throughout his time with us. His legacy will be fondly remembered,” Soleye stated.

Until his passing, Ogunyeye was the Agbaakin of Ilugun and a devout Christian chief at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ilugun Ita Elega, Abeokuta.

The entire Gateway United FC family extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, church, and the Ilugun community. 

Funeral arrangements will be communicated as announced by the family.
