Ogun State wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has decried what it described as disparity between degree holders in public secondary and primary schools in the state, just as the union demanded for the appointment of members into the career office of Head teachers General as currently exist in secondary education which has the position of Principals General for all the four divisions of Egba, Ijebu, Remo and Yewa
The State Chairman of NUT , Comrade Sewakanu Noah Oladipupo who raised the concern during the union 's 8th quadrennial and 16th state delegates conference on Tuesday in Abeokuta, appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to quickly address the unhealthy situation affecting the career progression of teachers in public primary schools, saying "primary school teachers deserve level 17 that their counterpart in secondary school are enjoying
Sewakanu who was re-elected during the delegates conference for second term of four years , pleaded with the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration to ensure full payment of Teachers Peculiar Allowance of 27.5% and payment of six years leave allowance for members
The State NUT Chairman, a teacher at Methodist Primary School, Ilesi , also called on government to urgently address the issues of security challenges in and around schools, particularly in rural areas in the state and shortage of teachers in classrooms
Sewakanu expressed the union 's confidence in the ability the current administration to address the demands of teachers in public primary schools
He lauded Governor Abiodun, Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide and members of the house as well as the State Head of Service,Mr. Kehinde Onasanya and the State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, SUBEB and others for their proactiveness in bringing succour to teachers in the past four years of his first term in office which experienced harmonious working relationship with government and recorded several achievements for the union in terms of welfare of members and physical projects to enhance teaching and learning in schools
The State NUT Chairman described as highly relevant, the Conference theme "Innovation In Teaching and Learning: Leveraging Technology for Improved Educational Outcomes" , saying most developed nations prioritize technology-driven education
"Ogun State is making strides , but we can further invest to enhance teaching and learning ", he charged
The State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya and State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Arigbabu represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Oluwatosin Oloko , declaring the conference open, commended the leadership of NUT for sustaining the tradition of meaning dialogue with government
Onasanya who described the theme as timely considering the technological innovations in the education sector through the Ogun State Education Revitalization Agenda OGSERA initiative that digitalized the activities or operations of the ministry including the registration of learners, preparation of examimation papers and results for learners and digital classrooms for learners
Similarly, the Registrar of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TCRN, Dr Ronke Soyombo , represented by State Co-ordinator , Alhaji Otun Akeem Olajide pledged continuous support of the council for NUT , describing the regulatory body for the teaching practice as baby of the union
Also speaking, the National President of NUT, Comrade Titus Audu Amba who was represented by National Treasurer of the union, Comrade Adesegun Raheem expressed excitement over the smooth and hitch-free conduct of the 8th quadrennial and l, commending the leadership of the State wing of the union for the ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for the election unlike the highly tensed situation of the previously held editions
The State Council Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola said the umbrella union was aware of the challenges of NUT, stressing the need for government to give adequate attention to welfare of teachers
The State NLC Chairman who described teachers of architects of better future, said no form of reform of government would succeed without giving priority to the needs of teachers in the country
The State Controller of Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Andy Egboh lauded the leadership of the State NUT for its foresight towards innovations in learning and teaching in various institutions, stressing that the importance of technology in learning and teaching can not be over emphasized
The Controller represented by Assistant Chief Labour Officer in the ministry, Mr.Kolawole Dauda expressed confidence in the readiness of NUT in supporting the ministry to ensure promotion of fair labour practices as well as industrial peace and harmony, especially in Ogun
Guest Lecturer, Dr. Adewale Kayode, who is also the Ogun State Ambassador on Education, speaking on the conference theme, tasked teachers to brace up, by acquiring the needed technological skills to enable them take over the digital space with a lot of innovative instructional materials to enhance learning among learners on various social media platforms
The delegates conference attracted dignitaries including the NUT National Social Secretary, Comrade Titi Adebanjo, NUT State Chairman in Lagos and Ekiti, elders in the union, four Principals General in Egba, Ijebu, Remo and Yewa zones and representative of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM who delivered goodwill messages to celebrate with members of NUT on the successful conduct of event
Other elected officers at the delegates conference include the State Deputy Chairman, Okulalu Olufemi Timothy (Mayflower School (Senior), Ikenne), 1st Vice Chairman, Quadri Fausat Olajumoke (Moslem Comprehensive High School, Imepe), 2nd Vice Chairman, Abiodun Oriyomi Samuel (Saint John Primary School, Mosimi), 3rd Vice-Chairman, Fadipe Olusola Abiodun (Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele), 4th Vice Chairman, Oladipupo Idowu Adewale (Oluaso High School (Senior) Imasayi ) and State Treasurer, Adekola Isiaka Adewale ( African Church Primary School, Agodo, Ewekoro)
Also elected at the delegates conference, are Internal Auditor 1, Abimbola Tosin Adelaja ( Saint James Anglican Primary School, Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo, Internal Auditor 2, Odule Olubunmi (Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta), Publicity Secretary, Muideen Wasiu Olalekan ( Local Government Primary School, Isomu), Social Secretary, Oluwole Felicia Oluwafunmilayo( CPS Olambe Agbado), Assistant Social Secretary, Ogunmona Omoyemi Alice (Local Government Primary School, Ipara-Remo) as well as National Representative, Ogunyemi Titus Taiwo and State Editor, Oke Temitope (Local Government Primary School III , Sango-Ota)
It should be noted that Comrade Samson Oyelere is still in charge of running of the Secretariat of Ogun State wing of NUT
