The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun, for intentional efforts put in place in remitting all the inherited National Housing Fund (NHF) deduction arrears of the Ogun State workforce.
Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services, FMBN, Mr. Ibidapo Odojukan, expressed appreciation when he led the Management Team of the FMBN on a courtesy visit to the Office of the Head of Service, as part of the Agency’s Zonal Meetings to the South West.
According to him, ‘’the Bank appreciates the State Government's efforts at offsetting the backlogs of the deductions, as this shows that government places high value on the citizens' welfare.’’
"We are appreciative of the State Government's efforts, particularly in remitting all the NHF deduction arrears we have had for a while in Ogun State. It expresses to us that the State has a commitment to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the value we put on the table for all citizens nationwide, particularly, the value that Ogun State Government puts on its citizens cannot be overemphasised,’’ he said.
He added that the remittance means that a robust relationship exist between the government and FMBN, and as such, a more cordial relationship was hoped to be built upon, revealing that a lot of interface and interactions were ongoing to further strengthen the already existing robust relationship.
Odojukan pointed out that, apart from building houses, one of the products offered by the bank was housing renovation scheme which had assisted many beneficiaries to complete their housing projects.
Responding, Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, described the Mortgage Bank as a veritable tool for meeting the housing needs of the people, adding that the strong antecedent and pedigree of the financial institution, had enabled its meaningful contributions to the growth of the economy through integrated housing schemes.
Mr. Onasanya affirmed that the State Government had successfully cleared the backlog of remittances of the National Housing Scheme which would enable workers take significant step towards either building or acquiring their own homes.
The Head of Service however solicited for partnership and collaboration of FMBN on the hectares of land acquired for workers at Ijemo/Onisela villages along Abeokuta/Kobape highway, pointing out that efforts were in advanced stage at ensuring the allocation of plots of land to various categories of workers which would be the first phase of the site and service scheme of the Christened "Prince Dapo Abiodun Bureaucrats' Estate".
He reiterated the commitment of the government towards providing affordable housing as coined under the Social Welfare and Wellbeing of the I.S.E.Y.A. mantra of the administration, with over 4000 housing units already delivered for the medium and upper income earners in the State.
The Head of Service, urged the banks to make available the various products for the workers so as to maximise them fully.
